1. Summative Assessment: The French Renaissance Standard 1: Historical and Cultural Contexts Illustrate how an artifact symbolizes and reflects a particular culture and/or time period.
Choose one of the following scenarios and write a detailed response. Use as much specific historical data as you can (open notes), but be sure to adequately address the prompt!
1.) Imagine you are the lord of a new manor house on the Loire river in France during the early 16th century. Write a letter to an artist at the School of Fontainebleau commissioning two different paintings that you would like to decorate your château. Specify subject matter and other criteria to be included in the paintings.
2.) Imagine that you are the ghost of Emperor Charlemagne and you are able to revisit France during the early 16th century. Remark upon the changes that you see in regards to art and architecture and give your opinion of the new styles.
