3 Figure 10.1 “How Often Do You Think About Sex?”
The percentages shown here were derived from a national survey based on a random sample of American adults between the ages of 18 and 59. As you can see, although most men seem to think about sex more often than most women do, there is overlap between the sexes in this respect. Figure “How Often Do You Think About Sex?” Don H. 4 Figure 10.2 Sample Test Items Favoring Females or Males
Women tend to outscore men on tests of verbal fluency, spelling, perceptual speed, and writing skills. Men, in contrast, tend to outscore women on some tests involving spatial skills, particularly mental rotation tasks. Figure Sample Test Items Favoring Females or Males Don H. Hockenbury and Sandra E. 5 Figure 10.3 The Male and Female Sexual Response Cycles
The figure on the left depicts the three basic variations of the female sexual response. Pattern 1 shows multiple orgasms. Pattern 2 shows sexual arousal that reaches the plateau stage but not orgasm, followed by a slow resolution. Pattern 3 depicts brief reductions in arousal during the excitement stage, followed by rapid orgasm and resolution. The figure on the right depicts the most typical male sexual response, in which orgasm is followed by a refractory period. Figure The Male and Female Sexual Response Cycles Don H.
