Solving First Degree Equations
Equations: Any mathematical sentence that states that two quantities are equal is called an equation. Solving Equations: To determine a numerical value for a variable (or variables, in equations that have more than one) that makes this statement true. Here are some things we can do when solving equations: Clear out any fractions by Multiplying every term by the bottom parts. Add or Subtract the same value from both sides. Divide every term by the same nonzero value. Combine Like Terms. Factoring. Expanding (the opposite of factoring) may also help. Solving First Degree Equations © 2016 E.
