1 Do- Now October 26th A theme is described as a moral or lesson about a literary work. Select one of the following abstract nouns below and create a thematic statement based on the Play, “Romeo and Juliet” using one of the words below. ( What can be learned about this word based on reading “Romeo and Juliet”?) Love, Loyalty, Rage, Secrecy, Hatred, Family, Anger, and Immaturity. Example: Family can cause people to be placed in difficult situations. For example, in ACT 2 of “Romeo and Juliet”, Romeo and Juliet wanted to be together but the feud between their families caused them to rebel against their parents.

3 A motif is a A recurring image, word, phrase, or action that tend to create unity within a literary work. Motifs can help the reader figure out the theme of the text. A motif differs from a theme in that it can be expressed as a single word .
