1 Multiplying fractions by fractions

2 1/2 of 1/3 = 1/6 1 out of the 6 rectangles is shaded both purple and blue.

3 Solve using the algorithm
Multiply across 1 x = 6

4 Solve the next two on your own

5 > < = > ¼ x 4 ¼ 4 groups of 1/4
> < = ¼ x ¼ > 4 groups of 1/4 4/4 = 1 whole which is greater than 1/4

6 > < = ¼ x ¼ ¼ < ¼ of ¼ is 1/16 which is less than 1/4

7 = ¼ x 4/4 ¼ 4/4 is equivalent to 1
You are essentially multiplying ¼ by one. Anything multiplied by one keeps it’s identity. This is the multiplication identity property. 4/16 is equivalent to 1/4
