2 When do I look? Recruiting Cycles
Full time jobs - New college graduates: Most offers at FALL career fairs Interns: Many offers at FALL career fairs This time of year, many students look and do not find jobs. What happened? They did not understand the recruiting cycle. The job they want was offered last October . Just graduated, or an August grad? Stay tuned for a minute… December grads? Start looking in SPRING – find out when companies want to talk to you. Didn’t do that? Start looking aggressively in AUGUST – apply and be very diligent – time goes fast! August grads? Same as May grads. Thinking about an internship next summer? Be ready for fall: get resume and LI profile ready now!

3 How do I look for a job? Use your network: Professors Other students
Industry contacts So, you are looking NOW, or will in the future. Make sure you talk to professors and let them know you are looking. Other students: graduates who are working; students who have a contact at a company Industry contacts: people you met at industry or student events Anyone else! Source: Texas Instruments

4 How do I find openings? Have a public resume on Handshake
Post your resume Look for openings Research companies Make yourself visible, so companies can find you – on Handshake, on Linkedin, … Create a profile and upload a resume. Make your profile AND resume PUBLIC so that companies can find you! Use career websites through student organizations: Professional (IEEE, others) Honoraries (Tau Beta Pi, others) Use all the tools to look for open positions – Handshake and other job posting sites. Research companies that fit your needs: another state or city, OR companies that have hired H1B employees. Mergent Intellect- helps find unknown and smaller companies in addition to well-known companies GoinGlobal- powerful search with the US and abroad; country work guides; shows companies that have in the past applied for H1Bs
