Write this week’s agenda!
Walk-in Take out notebook, folder, pencil box and agenda. Write this week’s agenda!
2
What’s inside your cells?
3
cytoplasm Cells contain a watery, jelly-like substance called CYTOPLASM. It contains STRUCTURES of the cell.
4
Structure and function
Structures are PARTS of something. Functions are the JOBS each thing does.
5
Organelles Organelles are the structures (parts) inside cells. Each has a function (job) to do to help keep the cell alive.
6
Cell membrane Thin barrier around cell Protects the cell and controls what goes in and out of it.
7
Is the command center of the cell, makes decisions to keep cell alive
nucleus Is the command center of the cell, makes decisions to keep cell alive
8
Thin barrier around nucleus
Nuclear membrane Thin barrier around nucleus Protects the nucleus and controls what goes in and out of it.
9
Cell wall Only in plant cells Gives support and shape to the cell
10
chloroplast Only in plant cells
Makes chlorophyll so plant can do photosynthesis
11
Independent practice Use a whole page in your notebook.
Draw a large PLANT cell (make it somewhat rectangular). Draw and label the following ORGANELLES: Cell membrane Nucleus Nuclear membrane Cell wall Chloroplast Write a short bullet next to each label to state the FUNCTION of that organelle. Color your diagram neatly.
