Student Tutorials Sample Items Practice Tests Recap Resources Script: Next we will review the computer-based Sample Items. These items engage students on selective items types that are hosted on the testing platform.

11 Sample Items These provide an additional sample of test items contained in the PARCC assessments. These will be provided in computer-based format; grade bands 3-5, 6-8, and High School; and in both ELA/L and Math. Scoring rubrics are provided with each sample set to review the scoring expectations. Purpose of Sample Items: Provide students, teachers, and parents the opportunity to interact with some of the functionality of the tools in TestNav 8. Allow students to work with the different types of item responses that will be on the PARCC assessments. Script: Computer-based sample items are available for teachers, students, parents, and others to experience some computer-based PARCC items. Unlike the Student Tutorials, these items do not display directions for test takers on how to answer questions on the assessment. These sample items are available in grade bands of 3-5, 6-8, and high school in both ELA Literacy and Math. Sample items will contain some of the online tools such as drag-and-drop, multiple select, text highlighting, video player, open response, and equation editor. These items are not intended to substitute for a full length practice test. Schools should also strongly encourage teachers to familiarize students with the ELA Literacy scoring rubrics prior to administration to help them understand the criteria by which their responses to prompts on ELA Literacy assessments will be scored. Scoring rubrics for these items are available and items will not be electronically scored.

13 Practice Tests Purpose of the Practice Tests:
Provide a critical step for students, educators, and schools to transition to new assessment content. Developed so students can have a hands-on experience. Available in paper-based and computer-based format. Provide teachers and administrators a tool to generate student performance data to inform instructional improvements and professional development. Create an understanding of the full length assessment. Script: Practice tests are a critical step in supporting students’ and schools’ transitions to new assessment content, as well as providing teachers and administrators a tool to generate student performance data to inform instructional improvements and professional development. Practice Tests are available in a paper-based and a computer-based format so students can have a hands-on experience with test items in a full length format. Computer-based practice tests are available in standalone web-based format at and launch directly into a non-secure TestNav 8 environment. Computer-based practice tests may also be administered through the PearsonAccessnext Training Center where schools may intergrate practice tests into their Infrastructure Trial. Practice tests administered in an infrastructure trail more closely mirror the process of logging into a secure testing environment on test day. Paper-based practice tests will need to be printed, locally.
