Metaphase
10
Telophase & Cytokinesis
11
During this phase… The cell will perform normal daily functions:
Growth Replication of organelles Replication of DNA Photosynthesis &/or Cellular Respiration Osmosis & Diffusion
12
During this phase… Nuclear membrane is present but beginning to dissolve DNA is in chromatin form Centrioles move to opposite poles and begin to form spindle fibers
13
During this phase… DNA is in chromatid/chromosome form Sister chromatids are connected by centromeres Sister chromatids are lined up along the middle of the cell
14
During this phase… Centromere releases sister chromatids Identical sister chromatids begin to move apart toward opposite poles
15
During this phase… Chromosomes unwind to form chromatin 2 Chromatin bundles are located at opposite poles of the cell New nuclear membranes form around each chromatin bundle
16
During this phase… Cytoplasm and all other organelles are divided into 2 cells Cell membrane pinches inward towards the other side In a plant cell a cell plate is created as an early cell wall
17
Mitosis: This form of cellular reproduction is Asexual:
Requires 1 parent cell Produces offspring cells identical to the parent cell Occurs relatively quickly The purpose of this form of cell reproduction: Growth of the organism Repair of injured tissues Replacement of lost or damaged cells/tissues
18
Vocabulary Involved: Go back and point out where you would label the diagram(s) using the following terms: Chromatid Centromere Centriole Cytoplasm Daughter cell(s) Nuclear membrane Spindle Fiber Sister chromatid Chromatin
