Construction Safety Part 4: Fire Prevention
2
Fire Procedures
3
Flammable Liquids Never smoke around flammable liquids.
Education code prohibits smoking in classrooms, school facilities, or on campuses Flammable Liquids
4
Store flammable liquids and materials in an approved metal container
Store flammable liquids and materials in an approved metal container. NEVER- Store chemicals in glass containers. Or unapproved plastic containers. Flammable Liquids
5
Never throw away rags or towels with soaked with flammable liquids in them in public use trash cans. A flammables waste container must be used. Flammable Liquids
6
Always check the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) before using chemicals.
Flammable Liquids
7
Prevention
8
Prevention Do not leave equipment running unattended or
running over night. Keep liquids away from equipment. Report any exposed wire or damaged cords immediately. Keep saw dust and wood shavings swept up daily. Prevention
9
Prevention Unplug all machinery at the end of the day. Don’t use space
heaters near furniture or under desks. Don’t intentionally cause tools to spark. Prevention
10
During a Fire
11
Once you see a fire… If you spot a fire, tell others and act quickly.
Turn off equipment using emergency shutoff. Once you see a fire…
12
Once you see a fire… Depending on the size you would,
Fight with a fire extinguisher and/or Call 9-1-1 Once you see a fire…
13
Get to safety by established routes
Get to safety by established routes. Move through egress routes to established. assembly area. If there is smoke, get low and crawl. NEVER use an elevator. Use stairs. Once you see a fire…

Write down the 5 types of fires and what the source materials consist of?
Type A: Wood, cloth, paper, rubber, plastic. Type B: Flammable liquids, gas, grease. Type C: Electrical Type D: Metals; Magnesium, Titanium, Zirconium, Sodium. Type K: Vegetable and animal fats. Question 1
16
What is P.A.S.S.? -Pull the pin -Aim at the base -Squeeze the trigger -Sweep side to side
Question 2
17
Questions 3-5 Flammability- How easy something catches fire.
Reactivity- Undergoes chemical reactions under certain conditions Explosivity- Undergoes rapid chemical change producing large amounts of gas and heat. Questions 3-5
18
Question 6 Flammable liquids have these 5 characteristics:
Give of ignitable vapors Have many ignition sources Heavier than air Accumulate when they escape Travel Question 6
