To earn money to pay for needs & wants To be around other people To make a contribution to society or help others Self-Fulfillment- to feel good about yourself or valued With a full-time job, you could spend more than 2,000 hours a year at work

Consider interests, values, work preferences, & skills Interests- things you like to do Skills- things you know how to do The result of knowledge combined with experience Some are specific to certain tasks/jobs Transferable skills- skills that can be used in many different situations Knowing and evaluating your skills and interests can help you make good choices about the world of work and possible career options that match.

Job- the work that you do for pay Occupation- the type of work you do People can change jobs and still have the same occupation Career- a series of related jobs or occupations built on a foundation of interest, knowledge, training, and experience

6 Work & Lifestyle Lifestyle- the way you use your time, energy, and resources The work you do affects the other parts of your life Based on personal choices 6 parts that make up your lifestyle: Family, friends, leisure, health, spirituality, and work

7 Assignment Lifestyle Poster
Start with a big circle or picture of you in the center labeled with your name’s lifestyle Include a circle for each of the 6 lifestyle parts surrounding you in the center Provide a description and personal examples for each lifestyle part Use clipart pictures or magazine pictures to represent personal examples for lifestyle factor 6 different size circles to indicate most to least important lifestyle factor – biggest most important, smallest least important Must be colorful and neat
