5 Why is Local Storm Tide So Dangerous?
Tropical Storm, Maximum Potential Storm Tide Category 2 Hurricane, Maximum Potential Storm Tide If a strong tropical storm (60 mph+ winds) were to make landfall at high tide it could produce a 5 to 7 foot storm tide in Glynn and Camden Counties. Now compare that to the potential from a category 2 hurricane making landfall neat Palm Beach, Florida and you will see a tropical storm can produce as much, or greater, storm tide than a hurricane near Palm Beach. A tropical storm could easily isolate Jekyll, Sea and Saint Simons Islands from the mainland and flood portions of Brunswick and St Marys! 5
