Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Lesson Plan Discuss vocabulary words. Read Alvin Ailey’s . Make vocabulary page in journal with definitions and pictures. Read the story. Students discuss finding main idea. Discuss story elements. Use vocabulary words in new sentences. Read the story. Use a graphic organizer to compare/contrast kids at the beginning and end. Practice vocabulary. Read the story. Practice summarizing the story in small groups. Comprehension assessment on the story. Skill check on summarizing and compare/contrast. Vocabulary Perform Effort Remember Mood Proud Higher order questions How different activities help you express emotion? Compare/contrast retelling and summarizing. Who are the kids and what do they do? Does reading about real kids make it more interesting? Why/why not? How does summarizing the ideas in a section help you retell in logical sequence? How will summarizing help you to read and understand another section? Assessment Strategy Students will describe an activity that allows them to express emotion. Students will create chart explaining the main ideas in each section of the story. Students can explain the difference between stories with real people and stories with fictional people. Students will be able to explain how summarizing can aid in comprehension. Students will do RTI as needed to reinforce skills.
