5 Guess the Lesson—Possible Answers
Erosion Tsunamis Waves Flood Ring of Fire Pacific

6 Learning Goals ALCOS #3:Compare geographic patterns in the environment that result from processes within the atmosphere, biosphere, lithosphere, and hydrosphere of Earth's physical systems. Goal: Tell me how the Earth’s landforms change and are impacted by natural events.

7 End Read—Pgs. 38-39 Read through “Earth’s Landforms” then STOP.
T—Title (1) H—Headings/Subheadings (2) I—Introduction (1) V—Vocab/Key Terms defined (5) S—Summary of the lesson at the end. (1)

8 There are different landforms all across not only America, but also the world.
America’s mid-west is a vast plain, or flat level area. Plateaus can be found in the southwest of the US, which are plains that sit high above sea level and have cliffs on all sides.

9 While we may not be able to always see them, the oceans have landforms as well.
Every landform above water can be found underwater too. Continental land often times stretches into the water before it drops off, this is called the continental shelf.

10 The Earth is constantly changing, and one of the main factors of change is erosion, the process by which rocks and soil break apart.

11 End QARs Where in the US would you find plateaus?
Continents and the land that has not yet dropped off into the ocean is located on what? The break down of soil and rock is called what?

12 End Read—Pgs. 40-41 Read through “The Ring of Fire” then STOP.
1’s: Key Term Keeper (Make sure you have every key term defined.) 2’s : Key Fact Keeper (Find at least 3 key facts for each part of our lesson.) 3’s: Summarizer (Summarize each part of our lesson, 3 sentences for each summary.)

13 Located on the Pacific plate, the Ring of Fire is a prominent location for volcanoes and earthquakes. Tsunamis are large, powerful oceans waves that can cause massive destruction on coastlines.

14 End QARs Many of the Earth’s volcanoes and earthquakes occur where?
Large, powerful oceans waves that can cause extensive damage to cities are called what?

15 End Read—Pgs. 48-49 Read through “Extreme Weather” then STOP.

16 Strong tropical storms that spin up the western hemisphere are called hurricanes.
Storms that are very similar in the eastern hemisphere are called typhoons. Both are considered to be cyclones, a storm with very strong winds.

17 End QARs A tropical storms that forms in the eastern hemisphere is known as a what? Both tropical storms in the eastern and western hemispheres can be called what?

18 QAR Answers Where in the US would you find plateaus? Southwest
