Ms. Evelyn K. Davis and Her Legacy
For more than 30 years she faithfully nurtured the needs of the whole family while caring for children whose parents were working to support their families. From 1966 to 1989, Evelyn directed the child care center that was seen as a lighthouse of hope for many in the community, while setting the standard for day care services in Iowa. She also connected with city and political leaders to make a difference across the city. Through her community leadership and advocacy for families, she worked tirelessly to see that the less-privileged received needed family support services so they could access jobs and education. She planted the seeds of hope.

Community College a good Fit for the CWF Model
Financial reasons are often a barrier that keeps students from persisting in college. Motivated population committed to getting ahead financially and is often combining work and school. Colleges already have most of the CWF elements in place but may not be connected in ways that work for students. Offers a framework for connections to community- based partners ( i.e., free tax prep, financial literacy).

EKD Mission The Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families uses an integrated support service network to help individuals and families achieve success through education, targeted skills training, real work experience and connection to employment opportunities.

Review of Year One Nearly 5,000 people walked into the Center in its first year of operation 988 people overall were impacted from our workforce efforts through placements, training, and navigation 1,000 people improved their overall education 1,500 people were referred to our partners for support services

Review of Year Two Total Bundle Services delivered 8,903
1,346 people overall were impacted from our workforce efforts through placements, training, NCRC, and navigation 700 people who developed a budget or long-term financial plan 2,673 people were referred to our partners for support services

Over 12,000 individuals have walked through our doors
Present Day August Present Day Over 12,000 individuals have walked through our doors Over $25 million dollars of wages generated back into the community through our placement and training efforts Over 3,000 individuals who have improved their financial education and assets

Program The project leaders wanted workforce, education, and training to be the focus points of entry into this model. This made us a unique model compared to other Center for Working Family models, which focused on financial literacy as the entry point around the nation.

Income/Work Supports At the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families, we’re helping families and individuals improve their financial position and connecting them with their work and career goals.

Workforce Training Academy
The Workforce Training Academy provides tuition assistance and support services for certificate training in occupations that have been identified as high-growth, high-demand in our region. Vocational and Academic Program Construction Training Leadership development Community Service Eligibility: 18-24 years old Needing HiSet or academic support (Priority given to those in need of Hiset)) Contact: Cliff Kessler

Summer Youth Experience Program
Preparing today’s youth with the necessary skills to fill the workforce employee gap expected in future years Goals To emphasize real world expectations To provide real world labor exploration To provide opportunities for career instruction, financial literacy training, academic improvement and social growth Requirements 14-21 10 weeks ( 2 weeks of pre-employment)

Central Iowa Works- Financial Services Workforce Partnerships leading the way Based off the Year Up model Learn in-demand technical, business communication, and professional skills for 5 months Succeed in 6 month corporate internships with local corporations Earn a weekly stipend and college credits Requirements High school diploma or HiSet Hungry for an opportunity to succeed

Increase the availability of customized financial education and one-on-one coaching. Create a budget and a long-term financial plan with all participants. Decrease in use of alternative financial services. Increase number of people who open and maintain bank accounts. Increase Income to self-sufficiency standard Build Savings to 3 months of savings Improve Credit score to 625+ Decrease Debt to-income ratio to less than 40% Increase the knowledge of banking fundamentals
