FMECA Failure No. Failure Mode Possible Causes Failure Effects
Method of Detection Criticality Remarks A1 Power Supply Linear regulators burning out, capacitor aging. Device fails to turn on, audio output ceases. Device doesn’t turn on. Low B1 LCD Display Panel Internal component failure, “rough” use by shop patrons. Touch panel no longer functions. Screen doesn’t turn on. Screen is cracked or visibly damaged. C1 Microcontroller Chip failure, bulk capacitor aging. Device no longer performs primary functions. Audio playback, etc. LCD reports a failure to communicate with micro. D1 Audio output stage DAC failure, MPEG decoder failure, capacitor aging, ESD to connectors. No audio output, noise or other unintended output. Device operates as usual, but sound isn’t working. E1 Ethernet Chip failure, parts damaged by ESD. Device can’t communicate with a wired network to provide services. Device is unable to connect to functioning network. F1 USB Device fails to load data from known working drive. Device comes online, but reports inability to initialize USB.
