Figure 1 Pedigrees of families 20 and 68 with germline mutation in BMPR1A. Both families fulfilled the Amsterdam I criteria and the mean age at colorectal cancer diagnosis was 61 years in family 20 and 53.5 years in family 68. Numbers below the symbols are patient identifiers and exact diagnoses can be found in Supplementary Table 1. In family 20, individuals with an underlined identifier were included in genetic linkage analysis. Symbols used are: square, male, circle, female; all symbols with a single diagonal, deceased; open symbol, no known neoplasm; black symbol, colorectal carcinoma; gray symbol, extracolonic carcinoma; symbol with diagonal stripes, adenomatous or hyperplastic polyp in the colon or rectum; arrow, index person; +, mutation carrier; -, non-carrier.
