The Fire Cadet Program is a youth development program that was created by firefighters for children of firefighters in 2004 and this program was started to afford kids the opportunity to see what Emergency Care is about and to open a doorway for them to be developed in the Emergency Care discipline. The program started out with about 20 kids and over a few years grew into a fully-fledged youth development program within the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services that has 220 youth registered to the annual program.

Support of Fire Departments
Our recent survey with Fire Departments countrywide has resulted in the realisation of lack of support from an equipment and technical point of view SAFYDA endeavours to support the Fire Departments with their needs by going out to seek partners (commercial and civil society) to deliver the service to the community It is not a given that we will succeed with every commercial request to the private sector. However we have capacity to request and present a sustainable business case to support the Fire Services needs. This support is provided on a case by case basis depended on the needs for the specific Fire Department or region
