2. Group Meeting Rules
Compulsory for students to attend and present at group meetings.
Everybody including supervisors must give a presentation.
The point of the BIS group meetings is to interact, ask questions and discuss scientific issues.
Learn how to collaborate and work together in a constructive environment.

3. Presentation Issues
Need to raise the standard of student presentations.
Each student represents our group.
We all need to give clear & concise presentations.
No help from audience members, you must be able to defend your own work!

4. Presentation Issues You must be aware of the big picture:
What are you working on?
Why it is important?
Why is it interesting?
What do you want to achieve?
If you don’t understand something then it must be focused on and corrected, not ignored.

5. I have no Results today! What do I do?
You must still present some material.
Discuss a recent publication that impacts on your work.
Discuss new developments in your research field.
Are there problems with your project? Experiment? Theory?

6. Audience Issues Ask questions?
Do you understand what the presenter is saying? Are they clear?
What is this guy trying to achieve?
Do these results look strange?
Question the logic used by the presenter, don’t believe everything you hear!
Speak up if you have suggestions or ideas!
Is there a better way?
How can the work be improved?
Have you seen similar results in another field?
Don’t reinvent the wheel!

It will give you new ideas about your own work.
You may also find solutions to each others problems.

Don’t talk too fast, talks must be clear, flow smoothly and make sense.
