We are all in the Kindergarten classrooms for a visit. We will begin the presentation at 5:15. Please feel free to walk down and look at your child’s classrooms!

4 Specials (Physical Education)
Teacher – William McGarva (Coach) Curriculum: Includes a variety of sports, games, skills, and fitness activities. Activities will include weekly objectives based around improving skills, building character, and will incorporate teamwork and sportsmanship. Classroom resources and tools: Sports, fitness, and skills equipment. FitnessGram assessment technology. Grading: 50% Participation 50% Projects, skills, and assessments

5 Specials (Technology)
Teacher – Alyssa Birdno Curriculum: A well rounded curriculum including; proper keyboarding, computer programing, internet safety, internet research, graphics programs, etc. Classroom resources and tools: Using the software for Technology called Learning.com. Used to receive assignments/curriculum, turning in work, take assessments and work on typing, all online. Grading: 50% Participation 50% Projects, skills, and assessments. Extra Curricular opportunities: Broadcasting (Still in need of participants) Mileage Club

6 Specials (Music) Teacher – Lindsay Blackman Curriculum:
Will encompass music fundamentals like rhythm, dynamics, pitch, tempos, form, and phrasing. All of these will be taught using songs, dance, instruments, stories, and activities designed to inspire creative thinking. Classroom resources and tools: Keyboards, Drums, Pandora, youtube, and a host of different music apps for Ipad that will be projected full screen so that there is full engagement and participation.

Grading: Students are expected to participate fully and with maximum effort. Participation counts for half the grade, and assessments will be based on demonstrating acquired knowledge of musical fundamentals. Occasionally, a playing assessment will be used, but the impact on grades due to playing ability will be minimal. Extra Curricular opportunities: Band and Orchestra are the main extra curricular opportunities for the musically minded. Previous experience is helpful but not necessary for the Rebel Groups. Spring Musical-keep an eye out for updates on the school website

8 Specials (Art) Teacher – Marylyn Moore Curriculum:
Artists are taught a brief art history from multiple cultures and eras prior to each lesson. They are then to use the Elements of Art (Color, Line, Form, Value, Texture, Space) to create a self expressed art piece. They must use problem solving skills to work through difficult material or concepts. Classroom resources and tools: Tempra, Acrylic & watercolor paint, markers, crayons, “light tracers” (Windows), variety of colored pencils, “How To Draw” books, Resource books, Supply table

19 Ability Grouping Mrs. Baladad is our additional teacher to help teach Ability Grouping! Math Leveled, not ability grouped Saxon K or Saxon 1 Literacy Intervention, Supported, Standard, and Advanced Standard Classes Based on testing that we started this week; testing continues until Mid-September (MAP, DIBELS, IReady, Writing Benchmark, Morrison McCall) You will receive a letter with the data once placements have been made Flexible! WE meet with admin to look over data every trimester to determine any moves that may be needed. Teacher input is very important as well.

If you would like your child to celebrate, send in NON-FOOD treats for the entire class If passing out birthday invitations, please invite the entire class Half birthdays can celebrate as well! Class Parties Fall, Winter, Valentine’s, End of Year Dates are to be determined yet Room Parents will be sending s asking for help and volunteers

21 Celebrations Food at School ALL snacks must be NUT FREE!
Only WATER in the classrooms When we go on a field trip – the entire lunch must be completely NUT FREE as well

22 Volunteers We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available and more will be coming as the year goes on. Check our web page for all volunteer opportunities! --Please no siblings when you are volunteering, they tend to take away some of the attention that is needed for our students!

23 Communication Email Phone Calls Conferences Who to talk to?
We will try to respond to you right away, but please do allow us up to 48 hours to respond as our days are busy If you are letting us know a change of plans for after school, we will do our best to respond with a quick thank you letting you know we have received that communication Phone Calls If you need to discuss something with us on the phone, please send us an first so we can set up a time This will most likely have to take place before or after school, or during our lunch time. We are unable to talk on the phone while we have your kids in our class Conferences These will happen 3 times a year (October, January, May) Please make sure these dates are on your calendar! Who to talk to? Please reach out to the teacher first! We always want to go to the source first because 9 times out of 10 it is a misunderstanding that can be fixed! If concerns are still not resolved when talking to the teacher, then you can contact Ms. Norton or Ms. Miller.

24 How to Help at Home Read with your child, at least minutes every night (bedtime stories work) Practice tying their own shoes & tucking in their own shirts! Ask them questions related to what we are working on in school Discuss and Practice AA Manners and AA Character at home (Behavior Contract) Help your child with ECAs Please make sure to communicate with your child what they are doing after school if it is not carpool We walk all kindergarteners to their designated after school activities Feel free to your child’s teacher their schedule for the week and we can make certain your child gets where they need to be!

25 School Uniform Policy Uniform vs Dress Code Sweatshirts and Jackets
We have a UNIFORM Policy All tops and bottoms must be from Dennis Uniforms. Socks, Shoes must follow uniform policy guidelines. Sweatshirts and Jackets If they are wearing it in the building, it must be Dennis Uniform. Sweatshirts and Jackets for outside recess or before/after school can be whatever they’d like. Label! Please label EVERYTHING (sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, anything that is theirs that you want back if it gets lost) Where is the AA Uniform Policy? 26 Carpool Make sure your child is able to recognize their full first and last name as well as their car! Use a ribbon, stuffy in the window, something your child can recognize to help. Make Friends! Carpool with other families! At drop off – make sure your child is unbuckled before you get into the 2 lane Pull all the way forward to the car in front of you to allow more cars to get in Respect ALL Carpool Attendants – listen to their instructions Want to avoid carpool? Morning  Mileage Club Afternoon  Homework Club as well as other clubs Visit the School Store!
