North Dakota’s SDWIS Prime transition plan and factors influencing it
North Dakota Department of Health Barrett Brown 7/12/18

Philosophy statements
North Dakota is firmly committed to probably moving to SDWIS Prime sometime. Since the transition will depend on many factors, we’ll see how and when things go forward. However, since ND does not have funding or desire to develop our own system and since SDWIS/State is not on a sustainable architecture, we don’t have many options. Current Preparations Begun implementation of CMDP
Admin accounts, DSE in place, lab admin in process Why now? We have many internal reasons for doing this now versus waiting. (i.e. data quality, modern technology, EPA funded tool) IAWG State Co-Chair Stay informed on happenings and help steer the process EN Grant for the development of tools to connect to the SDWIS Prime APIs Partner on 2 others SDWIS Prime Transition Plan 7/12/2018

Obstacles / challenges / headaches
SDWIS Prime development timeline My time, pulled in too many directions, learning how to use APIs Department reorganization Budget Staff turnover (18 mo) (Stage 2, GWR, RVOC, N/N, PIOC, Arsenic, RADS, PBCU, FL) Project burnout 2008 SDWIS Lifecycle discussion (5 options) 2009 (SLC) – post DMUC NextGen announcement (option 6) Recent work on Prime Core, APIs, Bulk Upload, and LRDR has helped SDWIS Prime Transition Plan 7/12/2018

Crystal Ball prediction
ND is very likely to move to SDWIS Prime, but when depends on many items. Hoping to be in production with CMDP yet this year, but many factors outside our control. Post Transition Environment Interfacing applications that use the APIs Maybe none, hopefully DWW, depends on Indiana led multi-state EN Grant to update DWW Interfacing applications that use ODBC to connect to the LRDR Expect our existing IA’s will connect to the LRDR initially. The refresh interval of the LRDR will also be a factor, so we’ll see. Use existing state node for LRDR sync SDWIS Prime Transition Plan 7/12/2018

Serious Note I am hoping that the culture of sharing and cooperation between primacy agencies will be at an all-time high after Prime is released. (like the SDWIS/State 7/8 days) I am looking forward to when the first easily sharable tool is developed that allows agencies to query SDWIS Prime via the APIs, similar to the Relation.mdb database. I am hoping the monthly Prime calls shift from just a Prime/CMDP update delivery tool by EPA to a highly interactive community information sharing forum. So, when is nd transitioning
Needed items LRDR Bulk data upload UI is a functional replacement (+/-) Data migration process and BRE has been fully tested against ND’s implementation of SDWA Estimate 6-12 months of testing Hope to begin testing in 2019 and potential migration in 20?? Assuming IE/Windows updates don’t render SDWIS/State completely inoperable Assuming no significant contractor work to update interfacing apps to work with APIs, if so, add more time SDWIS Prime Transition Plan 7/12/2018
