Unit 4 Discussion and Responses
2
My Post There are three different learning styles: 1. Auditory
2. Visual 3. Kinesthetic Auditory learners learn best by hearing information. It is better for them to sit in class and listen to a teacher talk about a subject than to read or take notes. When studying, it might be helpful for another person to recite information to them or for them to recite it to themselves. Visual learners learn best by looking at information, reading, or watching a video. It is better for them to have information on a paper in front of them than to listen to a lecture. Kinesthetic learners learn best through hands-on activities. They learn by doing. Learning by listening and taking notes is hard for them. Usually we learn best using one of these styles, but we use a combination of all of them to learn. It is important for teachers to know the different styles that children can learn so that they do not stand in front of the class all day lecturing if half of their class learns visually and kinesthetically. Teachers should try to incorporate all of the learning styles in their lessons so that all the children can have an equal chance to learn the material.

My Response to Fredrico Lopez
I am familiar with the three learning styles of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic which are your numbers 1, 2, and 4. Although I have never heard of auditory referred to as aural. I really like the social and solitary learners added to this list. Some kids do great in groups and others do not learn good in groups at all which is something teachers definitely need to keep in mind.

My Response to Leslie Chaney
Wow I did not know that there were so many learning style models. I only knew of the visual, auditory, and kinesethic one by Walter Burke Barbe, and I did not know that read/write learning was added to it. I guess I should do some more research on the other models! I agree that teachers need to keep in mind the different methods of learning that are out there so that every child gets the opportunity to learn the way that is best for them.
