Parisian Coffeehouse Talk
Many of the Enlightenment philosophers lived in or visited Paris while they were alive and met in locations, like salons or restaurants, to discuss their ideas. Even today, some people like to go to coffee shops to chat and catch up with friends or even debate a little modern philosophy. Today, you and your group are going to create one of these “coffeehouse talks” using the Enlightenment Philosophers!
2
Instructions Get with a group of 2-4 people. You cannot work alone!
Divide up the primary source readings between your group members. Read your assigned section, and summarize for your group members what that particular philosopher’s ideas were. Together, write a script for a conversation in a coffeehouse that the Enlightenment Philosophers may have had. You will each be playing at least one of the philosophers. Your script must include: 4 speaking parts (one for each primary source) At least 5 lines spoken per person (20 lines total) References to major Enlightenment ideas An element of argument-not all of these philosophers agreed with each other! At least 2 connections to modern day-how do we still use these philosophies?

When presenting… You will present on Monday, February 8th!
You may each have a script, but it’s more impressive if you aren’t reading straight from it! One of your scripts must be turned in! This copy may be typed, but be aware-all K teachers will be comparing scripts and checking for plagiarism to ensure that no cheating is going on! Feel free to bring costumes or any other props that you think will add to the effect of your presentation!
