1 First order of the day… BRs
You must do Bellringers every day that you are in class You have two choices: you can either write a complete answer, or you can write the question and the answer. Example: Who was Clovis? BR question: What will you do the same or differently to prepare for our next test?

2 Renaissance and Reformation ~1350 to ~1550

3 Review Remember all the good things that happened during the Middle Ages unit? Cathedrals and universities Higher literacy rates After the Black Death, increased wages for ordinary workers as well as new public health and organization initiatives And much more!

4 What is the Renaissance?
Between 1350 and 1550, Italian intellectuals (thinkers, writers, artists, leaders, etc.) began to reexamine the culture of the Greeks and Romans. Thus, this period was later called the Renaissance, or rebirth (Not this>>>>>)

5 Martin Luther’s break with the Catholic Church led to the emergence of the Protestant Reformation.
During the period known as the Catholic Reformation, the Catholic Church enacted a series of reforms that strengthened the church.

6 Machiavelli, da Vinci, Gutenberg, and other Renaissance-era thinkers, creators, movers, and shakers interacted to help shape and create the modern world.

7 Activity time! In order to preview our Renaissance and Reformation Unit and begin connecting ideas, you will use your phone or textbook to find people, ideas, and events from the Renaissance period. You must find at least two terms, but you may also find more. You will write these terms on the paper hung around the room. Write your name by the terms you contribute. Terms may not be repeated. You have five minutes. You’ll be graded on completing this activity and not getting off-task (i.e. texting your bae or snapchatting with your bestie over in science class) When you finish, in your notes, write whether you think it is better to be loved or feared as a leader and why.

8 …and why does this matter?
I will be using these terms to make a glossary that you will fill in as we complete our unit. You will be able to use the glossary on the unit test. You will not be able to use your notes.

9 Is it better to be feared or loved? Why? What does that look like?

10 What does Machiavelli think?
