EQ: What is radioactive decay?
Unscramble the following keywords for today’s lesson: Yecad Iriaovadect Ootspei Nsteruon nadgit

Isotopes When the nucleus of an atom possesses either too many or too few neutrons compared to the number of protons it becomes unstable. These are called radioactive isotopes. Unstable nuclei split up in a process called radioactive decay and emit radioactive radiation. Q: Define unstable. Q: Explain what is meant by radioactive decay.

Radioactive Decay When a radioactive element decays it releases energy. The parent atom gives out energy and turns into the daughter product with different chemical properties. Notes: Energy is released by………. The daugher product has different ………… ………….

Half-Life The amount of time it takes for the amount of radioactivity to decrease by half Q. What is the half life of this radioactive substance?
