2. Types of Heat Transfer
Heat is transferred in the mantle through radiation, conduction and convection
Radiation is the movement or transfer of heat through empty space (like warming by a fire)
Conduction is the transfer of heat by direct contact. (touching a hot mug)
Convection is heat transferred by the movement of heated liquid or air (roasting marshmallows over a fire)

3. Convection Currents
Hot magma in the Earth moves toward the surface, cools, then sinks again.
Creates convection currents beneath the plates that cause the plates to move.
