AMAZEING ESTIMATERS
2
Question Who are better estimators: Males or Females?
3
Purpose The purpose of this project is to determine if girls or boys are better at estimating. This is important because if you want a good estimate you know who to ask, a boy or girl.
4
HYPOTHESIS We hypothesize that girls are better at estimating. We think that because last year at the Spring Fling, of the three estimating contest, two were won by girls.

materials Bag of m & m’s 5 pieces of paper 2 pencils Bag of Reese Pieces Marbles Brads Jar
7
VARIABLE Manipulated/Independent: Male or females
Responding /Dependent: estimates Constant: the amount of objects and the size of the jar

DIRECTIONS 1. Count and record the number of M & M’s. Keep count hidden from test estimators. 2. Place M & M’s in clear jar. 3. Have each estimator estimate the number of M & M’s and record estimates. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 with marbles, brads, pencils, Reeses 5. Calculate the average estimate. 6. Calculate the average difference between actual and average estimates.

THIS IS OUR GROUP CALCULATING.

Conclusion Our hypothesis was incorrect. Males are better at estimating. The females’ average difference was and the male’s average difference was The thing we could change is the materials and same amount of females and males. A new idea is that we could use height and distance.
