Our sun~the star A presentation by Jessica Booth

The sun’s formation: The sun is a second generation star that partially formed from the remnants of a first generation star. The first generation star it formed from completed its life then expired with a supernova explosion in which its materials were thrown outwards. The supernova explosion of this star caused the nebula (cloud of dust and gas) that the sun formed from to begin gravitational contraction.

The sun’s formation 5 billion years ago when the sun's formation began all that existed of our solar system was the solar nebula. The solar nebula was slowly spinning when gravitational effects from within the cloud began to dominate over its heat causing it to condense and a protostar was formed.

The sun’s formation During the following tens of millions of years the protostar heated to point that allowed nuclear processes to occur at the core, then sun became a main sequence star.

Life of the sun…so far The sun went through an unstable period in which it developed very strong solar winds blowing the volatile gases out of the inner solar system before they could condense, which is why the first four planets in our solar system are solid. Is now a middle-aged main sequence star that has been steadily burning through its reserves of hydrogen fuel for about 5 billion years.
