How do we report our teacher assessment
PKF, PKE, PKG refers to children working pre-key stage . HNM – has not met the expected standard, only for Reading and Maths. WTS – Working towards the expected standard (Writing only) EXS – Expected standard GDS – Greater depth (writing only) We will openly talk to the children about their progress throughout the year. We will use the language of working towards, expected and greater depth. Jon

Scaled scores A pupil’s scaled score is based on their raw score. The raw score is the total number of marks a pupil scores in a test, based on the number of questions they answered correctly. Tests are developed each year to the same specification, however, because the questions are different, the difficulty of tests may vary each year. The raw scores are compared nationally and converted to a scaled score. A pupil awarded a scaled score of 99 or below has not met the expected standard in the test. Pupils scoring at least a scaled score of 100 will have met the expected standard of the test. Although we cannot report greater depth in Maths and Reading, if your child achieves a scaled score of , it is indicative of greater depth. Jon

What is used by the future secondary school.
It is the written tests which hold most weight in reading and maths, regardless of our teacher assessment. However, writing is only teacher assessed. Our aim is for every child to fulfil their potential. Jon

PiXL is an initiative that we are involved with along with over 1500 schools across England and Wales. . Pixl groups are in place for a range of reasons, they are not only if a child is working below the expected standard, but also to support children to achieve their targets (including greater depth)

Pixl at St John’s Three types of Pixl Groups: Pixl Class
Small Maths and Literacy group, covering the Yr 6 curriculum in a small context, catered to the needs of the group. Transition Group Small group working on closing gaps in knowledge and best supporting specific needs. Pixl Interventions Short one-to-one PiXL intervention in the afternoon led by several TA’s and teachers in the school – catered specifically to the child.

Pixl group are regularly reviewed and quite fluid in design so pupils move in and out of group as they need – particularly Pixl Interventions which are short boost sessions. It may not always be possible to inform parent before hand of Pixl changes but your child should be able to discuss if they are in Pixl. Teacher are available if you would like to discuss any Pixl groups or have any questions moving forward.
