These verbs are called shoe verbs because the forms that change YO, TÚ, UD, ÉL, ELLA, UDS, ELLOS, ELLAS fit inside a shoe-shaped graphic.
(The forms that do not change NOSOTROS/VOSOTROS are outside of the shoe. )

Stem changes can be e>ie, e>i, u>ue, o>ue
There is no way to tell if a verb is stem-changing. You have to memorize which ones they are. Remember them as part of learning the infinitive.

#3 change the vowel to the stem change (ie, i, ue)
#4 add the appropriate conjugation endings
