2. Why try something new?
We recognise that the children have gaps in their understanding about spelling rules- simply as there are so many.
We wanted to use something that would be same across KS1 so we could build on their understanding and recognition of spelling rules.

3. Research
Research indicates that most children do not learn spellings by simply using rote visual learning alone. 
Meaningful and purposeful activities will help the children remember and find the sessions more fun.

4. How will we deliver Headstart Spelling?
We will introduce 4-6 spelling patterns over a 4 week period, these will then be repeated over the following four weeks. This will allow every child to practice and use their new learning.
We will play lots of games to make the learning fun and help child to remember the spelling patterns.

Use you knowledge
Does it look right when you write it down?

6. How can you help at home? 
Your children will bring home worksheets that they will have completed at school. These will tell you what spelling rule we have been covering that week. 
It would be great if you could reinforce their learning by playing games such as spelling hunts. Encouraging your child to have a go at spelling words containing the rule.
