Protista and Fungi
12
Fungus-Like Protists fungus-like protists absorb nutrients from living or dead organisms. Ex. Water Mold
15
Fungi Characteristics:
Spore producing organisms that absorb nutrients from the environment. Placed in their own Kingdom – Fungi Kingdom Consumers Can not move
16
Decomposers Fungi get nutrients by secreting digestive juices onto a food source. Dead matter All are made up of eukaryotic cells Contain a cell wall made of chitin.
17
Unicellular and multicellular
Many Multicellular Fungi contain fungal filaments called hyphae. Most hyphae in a fungus form mycelium which makes up most of the fungus.
21
Different Kinds of Fungi
Fungi are classified based upon their shape and the way they reproduce. Three main groups: Zygote Fungi Sac Fungi Club Fungi
23
Important Decomposers
Important decomposers of wood. The nutrients in wood could not recycle itself. Why is this important for our ecosystem?
27
Sac Fungi Reproduce sexually and asexually
Sexual reproduction spores are developed within a microscopic sac that releases them. Yeast are asexual (budding) and are single celled.
