Plants are called producers because they produce their own food.
Plants make their own food by Photosynthesis
Plants use Sunlight, Water & Carbon Dioxide during Photosynthesis to make glucose

Animals are called consumers; they are consumers because they cannot make their own food and must consume (eat)
There are 3 types of consumers
Herbivores – eat only plants
Carnivores – eat only meat
Omnivores – eat both plants and meat

4. Herbivores Animals that eat only plants are called Herbivores.
Herbivores eat leaves, grass, flowers, seeds, roots, fruit, tree bark, & pollen
Some examples are:
Deer
Horses
Rabbits
Bees

5. Carnivores Animals that eat only meat are called Carnivores.
Carnivores eat meat or other animals
Some examples are:
Felines
Tigers
Lions
Birds of Prey
Eagles
Hawks
Insects
Spiders

6. Omnivores Animals that eat both meat and plants are called Omnivores.
Omnivores eat both meat and plants
Some examples are:
Humans
Most Bears
Raccoons
Most Primates
Apes
Monkeys
Some Birds

7. Decomposers Bacteria and fungi are Decomposers.
Decomposers eat dead plants and animals.
During decomposition, decomposers break down dead and decaying matter.
This process releases nutrients and minerals back into the soil
