Figure 2 (A) Biopsy sample obtained from the angularis mucosa (transitional mucosa). Foveolar epithelium shows focal metaplastic goblet cells; a scanty population of mononuclear leukocytes is present in the lamina propria, coexisting with dilated vessels. Note the absence of any granulocytic inflammatory population (hematoxylin-eosin, original magnification ×40). (B) Biopsy sample obtained from antral mucosa. Foveolar epithelium is bordered by columnar mucosecreting cells. Within the lamina propria, dilated microvessels coexist with inflammatory infiltrate, mainly consisting of mononuclear leukocytes (hematoxylin-eosin, original magnification ×25).
