3. Play and Disability
Play can help a child with disability develop as other children do
Play can prevent a disability from getting worse
Children with disability should be encouraged to play alone and with other children

4. A child with disability that is left lying on his back all day will develop very slowly.
But a child with disability that is encouraged to play and interact with others may develop quicker.
Encourage other children to play with children with disability – include them in games or make up new games that the child can do too

5. Types of Activities Activities should stimulate: Using the hands
Lifting and moving the head
Sitting
Standing, walking and running

6. Toys Do Not Need to be Expensive
Toys can be made from things found in or around the house
Toothbrush, comb
Pots, pans, spoons, bottles
Shells, rocks, beads
Different foods

7. Games Do Not Need to be Complicated
Playing with sand
Kicking or catching a ball
BE CREATIVE!

8. Games and Toys can be Adapted
Playing catch in sitting
Making thick handles for rattles
Using special positions or special chairs when playing games
Children with severe disabilities can play too!
