1 Supreme Court agrees to block refugees

2 The U. S. Supreme Court, which is located in Washington D. C
The U. S. Supreme Court, which is located in Washington D.C., granted a request from the Trump administration Monday and temporarily blocked a lower court order that would have allowed more refugees to enter this country from six majority-Muslim nations (Syria, Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Libya and Yemen). The government asked for a "temporary administrative stay" (that means a temporary halt to the court order) to give the justices time to consider the issue. In other words, the refugee ban will be allowed while the Supreme Courts discusses the situation. The Supreme Court, which is headed by chief justice John Roberts, is scheduled to hear arguments Oct. 10 on the legality of Trump's travel ban. Previously, in late June, the justices handed down a short, middle-ground ruling that said the travel ban may take effect, but not against those who have a "close" family tie to someone in this country or against refugees who "claim a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States.” Since then, those opposed to the ban, and the Trump administration have continued to fight over who is covered by those standards. For example, is a close family relationship just parents and spouse or should it also be other family members such as grandparents, in-laws and cousins?

3 In Other News The Justice Department announced Tuesday that it will not prosecute six Baltimore police officers in the 2015 death of Freddie Gray. In a statement, the DOJ said it found "insufficient evidence to support federal criminal civil rights charges" against the officers. Gray died in April 2015 after suffering a neck injury while in police custody -- his death spurring massive protests and riots in Baltimore. An 11-year-old boy died after he fell into a volcanic crater in Italy and his parents also died when they tried to help him. The incident happened Tuesday at the Solfatara Crater in Pozzuoli, a popular tourist attraction near Naples. Naples police said the family of four was visiting from Turin, and the 11-year-old boy wandered into an area that is off-limits to visitors. The Cleveland Indians' hot streak continued Tuesday, as they defeated the Detroit Tigers, With the win, the Indians tied the 2002 Oakland Athletics for the longest winning streak in American League history. The 1916 New York Giants are credited as having the longest winning streak in MLB history at 26 games, but they had a 1-1 tie against the Pittsburgh Pirates during that run. Aside from that, the 1935 Chicago Cubs had a 21 game winning streak.
