Christmas Christmas is the main public holiday in Great Britain. People often see it as a time of merry-making and present-giving. They usually spend time with their familles. They eat and drink together. The typical meal consists of turkey with potatoes and other vegetables such as carrots and sprouts. Christmas tree is decorated with tinsel, baubles, fairy lights…

Easter day. This main festival of the Christian church celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his Crucifixion. Eggs – symbol of new life and resurrection are brightly colored and decorated. Its symbol is the rabbit/

Halloween. It dates back to the ancient fire festivals, when huge bonfires were set on hilltops to frighten away evil spirits. This is an autumn festival with ghosts, witches, black cats, fairies and demons of all kinds. Its common symbol is a pumpkin carved in the appearance of a demonic face and with a lighted candle inside.

Guy Fawkes Day. The old English tradition is Guy Fawkes Day. Children go out into the streets on 5th of November with figures like scarecrows. They stand in the streets and squares asking for the usual “Penny for the Guy”. Then with the money they have collected they buy fireworks and burn the guy on the bonfire.
