Mrs. Arnold’s First Grade
Welcome Parents!
2
My Goals To help your child develop intellectually, morally, emotionally and socially. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment that promotes learning. To help your child discover new interests.
3
Arrival The school opens each morning at 7:00 am. Students sit with their class in the first grade hall until the 7:25 bell. During this time we encourage the students to read. Help your child remember to keep a favorite book in their backpack! At 7:25 the children come to the classroom. If they are not in the room by 7:30 they are tardy and will be sent to the office to get a tardy slip.
4
Dismissal Dismissal begins at 2:30. Be sure your child is aware of their dismissal (car rider, walker, KINs, daycare etc.) If there is a change in your child’s dismissal plan or you must check out early, please send a note or call the office. If there is a dismissal change during the school day please call the office. I cannot guarantee I will get an or remind message.

SNACK Our morning is long and we all get a little hungry. Research shows that we all learn better when we are fed and watered. Please send your child to school with a healthy snack everyday. This should be something they can eat and clean up in about 5 minutes. Students may bring a water bottle every day too! Please be sure that it has a top and doesn’t leak. It’s also a good idea to label it with your child’s name.
10
Scholastic Book Order Extra Extra read all about it. I will send home a Scholastic book order monthly. Ordering books through Scholastic is a bargain. And even better, for every book that you order, our class will receive points to order resources for the classroom! EVERYONE’S A WINNER. Please be on the lookout for these orders to come home soon!
11
Weekly Spelling Tests There will be two sets of words each week – words with a focus on spelling patterns and high frequency words. Every Friday students will be tested on spelling these words and writing them in two dictated sentences. Spend some time throughout the week practicing these words with your child.
12
Weekly Work Grades will be posted online weekly. Student work will come home in their weekly work folder on Tuesdays. Please take the time to review work with your child. Celebrate successes and set goals for improvement. Remove papers, sign and return the folder the next day.
