Lesson 14 – Nouns and Adjectives in -r preview
Before we begin please read pages “Grammar” of your textbook. This will give you a preview of what you are about to learn. What letters do most 2nd declension nouns end in? For nouns and adjectives ending in –r, why is it critical to memorize the genitive singular?

Lesson 14 – Nouns and Adjectives in -r forms
Most 2nd declension nouns end in –us e.g. equus. However, some 2nd declensions end in –r or –er e.g. vir or ager For these nouns you must memorize the genitive singular because some nouns will retain the “e” in the base and others won’t. Compare magistrum to puerum. See page 105 for forms of these nouns. No new memorization is needed.
