4. Brand Options
Viva:
This brand is newer to the market and is one of the top name brands. Has been on the market for less than a decade
Bounty:
Probably the most frequently advertised paper towel brand. Has been on the market for over a decade
Great Value (Wal-Mart Generic):
This is Wal-Mart’s store brand. Has been on the market for over a decade and is the only store brand in the sample
Brawny:
The next most frequently advertised paper towel brand after Bounty. Has been on the market for over a decade

The purpose of measuring the sheets is to discover which sheet has the greatest area. The largest area ensures that students will get the most for their money.

8. Test 3: Absorbency Lay a folded single sheet of paper towel on a table
Measure out ¼ cup of water
Pour ¼ cup of water onto the paper towel
Lift paper towel to see how much water drips

Brawny scored a 1. The water rolled off the paper towel on to the table.
Bounty scored a 2. The water soaked through the paper towel leaving residual water on the surface, also when we picked up the paper towel water dripped out.
Great Value scored a 3. The sheet absorbed most of the water and did not leave as much residual water on the surface.
Viva scored a 4. Viva left little water on the table and no water dripped when it was lifted.

11. Test 4: Strength
Put marbles in a glass of water and fill until the water covers the marbles
Have a partner hold the paper so that it’s completely unfolded
Place the moist marbles onto the paper towel one by one
After the paper towel rips, count the marbles placed on it

Based on our results the best brand of paper towels is Viva. Viva received 13 out of the 16 possible points. We recommend college students use Viva paper towels because it is the strongest and most useful for its price.
