Creating a Digital Showcase Designing a Soloution
Unit 4
2
Learning Outcomes WALT WILF
How to create a design solution that meets your requirements. WILF A collection storyboards, navigation structures, scripts and timings.
3
Introduction This unit covers the production of a digital showcase. It will cover a subject of your choice within the set scenario. Interface Design Structures and Navigation Script, Storyboards and Timings Interactive Elements
4
Interface Design First stage of design process. All based on your users. How will they use the product?
5
Structure and Navigation
A navigation structure is needed to show how you will start the product, and how you will get to, and from, each page. There are three ways to structure your navigation Linear Mesh Hierarchical
6
Linear Structure In a linear structure, the pages in the multimedia are linked one by one by one Advantages Disadvantages
7
Mesh Structure Every page can be accessed from any other page. “think of a room with a door going off to every other room”
8
Hierarchical Structure
A combination of them both Information can be clumped together. Combines organisation of Linear, but freedom of Mesh

10
Script, Storyboard and Timings
Once you have designed the interface and structure of your multimedia product You should be ready to plan how the different elements of your multimedia product interrelate.
11
Script, Storyboard and Timings
A list of things that happen, can be listing how a page opens Page Opens Main Title Appears as Animation Main title tweens into subtitle Video Plays
12
Script, Storyboard and Timings
A series of pictures representing what's happening at key stages.
13
Script, Storyboard and Timings
Timings This deals with the time that each stage takes. Event Start Time (Seconds) Finish Time Page Opens 2 Main Title Appears 3 6 Main Title Tweens into Subtitle 7 21 Video Plans Twice 22 56
14
Interactive Elements Your multimedia product needs to be interactive.
“Controllable Elements” Buttons Controllable Videos / Animations Rollover Images
15
This Weeks Task Using the techniques plan your product.
Evidence that your plan meets your requirements A wide range of structural elements using an appropriate navigation system and structure A comprehensive list of elements, including timeline based events and a range of interactive elements.
16
This Weeks Task Evidence could be a tick list with commentary showing how your plan meets your requirements Storyboards, timeline based events can have 4 storyboards for the same frame and show the seconds past on each one.
17
Merit Candidates will produce a detailed design plan that clearly shows how must of the project requirements will be met. They will produce an effective interface design that incorporates an appropriate navigation system and structure. They will produce a detailed storyboard for the product, which will include some timeline based events and a range of interactive elements.
18
Distinction Candidates will produce a comprehensive design plan that shows clearly how all the project requirements have been met. They will produce a highly effective interface design that incorporates an appropriate navigation system and structure. They will produce a comprehensive storyboard for the product, which will fully depict a range of timeline based events and the operation of a range of interactive elements.
