Corporate Internet site ORBIS – the Tetra Pak Intranet Electronic communication in general Internet: Driving and developing the dotcom site and push our tool for building sites (Toolbox). The ultimate goal is to have a coherent and consistent presence on the Internet, no matter which Tetra Pak company it is. And also to share applications, content and leverage as much as possible from each other. Elisabeth Christensson is frau Internet. Orbis: The web master and infomaster are both members of the team. We update and handle our responsibilities concerning old Orbis.  New Orbis: Driving the further implementation and development of our portal-based intranet.  Electronic communication in general: Looking out for ways of improving our ways of working in a more efficient way.

5 Why did ORBIS need to be changed?
1997 2,500 pages 8 sites 2003 +400,000 pages +300 sites 170 employees, maintenance Manuscript: As you can see, when Orbis was first started, the amount of information was so limited as to be quite manageable with our existing system. But now it is like an overgrown garden. Although the individual sites are fine in themselves, the sum of them is not. We have too many different designs, navigation systems and information is often duplicated. This makes it slow and frustrating for users. We know users have been frustrated because they have told us so.

6 Why a new ORBIS...? ”The personal portal will become a strategic information management tool for Tetra Pak. It is the gateway to information contained in the Internet databases and will allow all Tetra Pak employees to access information in a personal way suited to their working needs.” Nick Shreiber

7 Why a new ORBIS...? ”The Tetra Pak systems strategy is to treat all our systems as Internet databases and ensure that the information links between them are as standard as possible. Tetra Pak must therefore adopt common Internet tools so that information can be shared effectively at a manageable cost.” Nick Shreiber

8 Why does it have to take so long?
It’s not only about publishing content It’s a platform for the future It is prepared to become a ubiquitous network for communication and collaboration across borders* *) systems, sites, organizations, content, internal, external etc.

Now, let's take a look back at the history of Orbis and consider why it needed to be changed.

10 Level 1 These have been the guiding principles in developing Orbis have been the following: 1. Collaboration: We could use classic Orbis to inform and communicate with one another - new functions make it possible to do them both more easily and effectively. Plus, we now have tools which make remote collaboration a practical alternative to face to face meetings.

11 Level 1 2. Gateway: Users can get into all the applications they need and find all the information they need through Orbis. Each individual, can opt to receive the information he needs to do his job. Others (with his interests in mind e.g. members of the same community) can also make relevant information available to users through Orbis.

12 Level 1 3. Roles: Orbis is set up in such a way as to reduce the information overload as far as possible. People will still be able to send one another information, but it will be much more accurately targeted than ever before. And the main reason for that is that we will all have roles: some given and others defined or chosen by ourselves. Roles mean we'll be able to find the relevant people to communicate with and they will be able to find us.
