ALBATROSS Trial design: Patients with MI without heart failure were randomized to an IV bolus of potassium canrenoate 200 mg as early as possible, then oral spironolactone 25 mg daily for 6 months (n = 802) vs. control (n = 801). Results (p = 0.97) Death, resuscitated cardiac arrest, significant ventricular arrhythmia, indication for implantable defibrillator, or new/worsening heart failure at 6 months: 11.8% of the spironolactone group vs. 12.2% of the control group (p = 0.97) 12.2 11.8 % Conclusions Among patients with MI without heart failure, an early aldosterone antagonist (IV potassium canrenoate/oral spironolactone) was not beneficial at reducing adverse cardiac events compared with control Spironolactone Control Presented by Dr. Gilles Montalescot at ESC 2015
