PE tags are available should you want them to check they have the correct kit. Swimming will take place in Spring 1. (1 piece – minimum of 30mins) If not completed or minimal effort put in, children will spend a lunchtime completing it) Spelling tests are every Thursday. Spellings are stuck just inside the reading record & are available on the class blog to download. Your child will come home with their spelling result on the Friday.

4 Welcome to Year 2 3. What’s expected of the children?
The children are to read every night. If this doesn’t happen , children will read at break time, outside on the bench for up to 5minutes. All reading at home is logged & monitored and reading bookmarks awarded for home reading achievements. Please read a range of texts at home – it doesn’t always have to be their school book! The children are to always try their best with their work. Be active learners  (be engaged, ask questions, focused, attentive etc) and avoid habits that hinder their own and others’ learning (fiddling, chatting, disruptive etc) They are to be polite and respectful of others around them, including all adults around the school. The children are to feel safe at school. Ensuring the children know who they can turn to and to be aware of other people’s feelings. To enjoy school, learn lots and be happy 

You may recognise this: Focusing on breadth & depth of understanding ‘Lingering longer’ and ‘Inch wide and mile deep’ There are numerous things that can affect a child's progress. Attendance is key but most importantly the home/school link has to work. If you have any concerns – please come and talk to us.

7 Welcome to Year 2 6. How you can help at home?
Listen to your child read every day at home and sign their reading record. Ask questions about the book – ensure they have understood what they’re reading about. Make sure that they have their yellow reading record with them everyday in their book bag. Ensure homework gets completed and handed in on time. Make sure your child has their PE kit in school with them everyday and is labelled with their name!  Talk to your child about their day.  Check the class blog with your child. COMMENT COMMENT COMMENT!! Practise spellings regularly in preparation for their test on Friday, Times Tables, Number bonds – use Mathletics. ( See Pupil section of the blog. Try and get into a routine with your child so they know what’s expected of them from home. e.g. assign time to do homework on a set day etc.
