Stage 1 Waves attack weak points in the headland through processes of erosion (Abrasion, H Action, Corrosion) Cave Weaknesses are enlarged and widened by erosion. Caves begin to form

7 Stage 2 The base of the arch is undercut with a Wave Cut Notch
The cave erodes right through forming an arch. Or caves form on both sides of headland. The erosion continues and the arch gets larger…..

8 Stage 3 …..and leaves a stack
The roof of the arch collapses due to gravity….. The sea continues to break up the eroded material into smaller pieces

9 Stage 4 A wave-cut platform is left as the headland retreats Stump
All that remains is a stump. Perhaps only visible at low tide. The sea continues to erode the stack
