3 Priority 1 ICT convergence (mobile phones, video & TV, Internet) will provide universal, just-in-time and user-friendly access to information, world-wide. - Gaps between regions? - Capacity to use and make value? - A demographic aspect? - Is this a regional/territorial question? - Is there a need for EU funds?

4 Priority 2 Youngsters will be more competent in more advanced technologies. The education system will become more open, and participatory. - Relation to ICT convergence? - Gaps between regions? - A demographic aspect? - Is this a regional/territorial question? - Is there a need for EU funds?

5 Priority 3 Regional impacts of globalisation - Relation between activities and territories? - Regional vulnerability and ways to handle it? - FDI and development of regions? - Added value for activities already located?

6 Priority 4 Most regions become functional metropolitan areas - Urban sprawl? - Land use, CORINE, Google Earth? - Impact on governance?

7 Priority 5 Importance of external borders and neighboring regions - EU borders East and South? - EU position in the world? - Evolution of functional border regions? - Studies outside the ESPON-countries? - EU, fortress or filter?

8 Other suggestions... EU policies redefined by territories (Coast, mountains, islands, rural areas, medium-size cities, large cities...). Reinforcement of cross-border regions. More individualistic and heterogeneous ways of living and working will emerge. Public spaces and facilities (e.g. Transportation terminals) will become fundamental assets for social inclusion.
