2 Figure 1 MGRN1 Promotes a Transcriptional Stress Response in Aged Neurons Proteasomal activity decreases as neurons age. In young neurons with active proteasomes (left), MGRN1 remains localized in the cytoplasm. As proteotoxic stress builds (right), MGRN1 is deubiquitinated by the deubiquitinase (DUB) UCHL5 at the proteasome, producing a monoubiquitinated form of MGRN1.
