2 Karyotype What is a karyotype? Remember:
A karyotype is a photograph of the chromosome pairs in an organism. All 46 chromosomes are shown. Useful tool for geneticists when diagnosing genetic disorders. Remember: XX: female XY:male

5 Directions In this activity, you will be diagnosing different genetic diseases based on what you see in the karyotype. Write down the sex of the patient, where the abnormality is located on the chromosome and the name of the disorder on the worksheet given to you. Use the yellow sheet that has a chart to help you identify the different chromosomal abnormalities. HINT: If you don’t immediately see the abnormality on the karyotype, use the process of elimination to determine the disorder.
