DIT Features DIT is a Public Technical Institution established under Parliamentary Act No.6 of 1997, and its under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Governance and management : DIT Council and the Chairperson is Presidential appointment. By products of Meat Industry
LEATHER VALUE CHAIN Value addition (Application of Technologies and Skills) Raw Materials (Our strength-) Hides & skins Wet Blue Crust Finished Leather Footwear & Leather Goods By products of Meat Industry Leather –based industry encompasses the entire value chain from flaying hides and skins (as byproducts of the meat processing industry) to producing consumer goods made of genuine leather (or substitutes). Usually the leather derived products manufacturing is listed among light industries. There are three phases of processing hides and skins into derived consumer products:- Hides and skins handling and improvement deals with flaying, preservation, collection and transport of the raw material Leather processing or tanning converts raw hides and skins into stable, durable, hygienic and aesthetic semi-finished (wet-blue, crust) or finished genuine leather Leather products manufacturing supplies footwear, leather goods (e.g. handbags, travel goods, belts), gloves, leather garment, upholstery (including car seats), sports goods (e.g. balls), technical articles (e.g. belts) SLAUGHTER HOUSE TEACHING TANNERY TEACHING FOOTWEAR AND LEATHER GOODS WORKSHOPS (Design development skill set as key requirement to evolution of the leather products industry There is a demand for workforce skilled in manufacturing footwear and other leather goods) 18 January 2019 EASTRIP 2nd National Stakeholder Wshop DIT main campus

Diploma programs: Ordinary Diploma in Leather Products Technology Ordinary Diploma in Science and Laboratory Technology Short term courses: Basic shoe making Leather Goods making Footwear design and pattern engineering Hides and Skins Improvement (Best Flaying practice) Leather Craft Tanning Computer (Basic and Advanced) applications Website design PC maintenance and Repair Program development: Training Needs Assessment (Professionals, Employers,Societal), Stakeholders workshop (Private sector, Industrialists, Govt.Organizations), SAR+CIR+ISR submitted to NACTE for deliberations

TECHNICAL EDUCATION & TRAINING PATHWAYS
Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering & Bachelor of Science in Textile Design and Technology ( 4 years) O-level Secondary education-Science (4 years) Short courses in Leather Craft Tanning and LPT (1 – 2 months) Ordinary Diploma in Leather Products Technology- NTA Level 6 (3 years) Primary education (7 years) Certificate in Footwear and Leather Goods – NVA III (2 years) Technical education: Basic Technician Certificate in LPT – Only one institution in the country offers - DIT Mwanza campus (2 students) Certificate in Footwear and Leather Goods – Only one vocational training institution (VETA) offers in Dakawa Morogoro (30 students per 2 years graduate) Ordinary Diploma is yet to be linked to Bachelor of Textile Engineering which might be similar Short courses in Leather Craft Tanning and LPT – More than 500 trainees attended Basic Shoe Making course at DIT Mwanza Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering, Textile Design and Technology is currently offered only at the University of Dar es Salaam 18 January 2019 EASTRIP 2nd National Stakeholder Wshop DIT main campus

Center’s sustainability
Leather industry is a URT Government priority sector, and its in FYDP DIT is autonomous and in a position to raise funds through various means including trainees/student fees Under teaching factory concept, DIT has a strong link with the industry
