3 Germany’s Dilemma Germany was surrounded by enemies
FRANCE GERMANY RUSSIA Germany was worried about having to fight enemies on two FRONTS (battlefields), which would weaken its army TPS: If you were Germany, would you attack France or Russia first? Why?

4 Germany’s Strategy Russia is huge and has less railroads, so it will take them longer to mobilize (get ready for war) France is a smaller country with a smaller army Belgium is neutral, so it has a small army

5 Schlieffen Plan Schlieffen Plan
Germany will secretly attack France first by going through Belgium

6 Results Belgium and France both fight back
 4 year war on “Western Front” England is furious that Germany attacked a neutral country  Declares war on Germany Russia is able to mobilize and attack Germany  3 year war on “Eastern Front
